🛞 Tyre options for Surly Moonlander

🔹 Standard size

- 24 x 6.2" Surly Molenda - Tubeless Ready, 60 TPI

→ Ideal for snow, sand and soft terrain

🔹 Alternative fat bike tyres (26")

As many Moonlander frames were originally designed for 26" wheels, the following tyres are also popular:

- Surly Bud & Lou (26 x 4.8") - Aggressive tread for trail and winter use

- Surly Big Fat Larry (26 x 4.7") - Wider, but with fewer lugs - good for sand

- Vee Tire Snowshoe XL (26 x 4.8") - For extreme winter conditions

- Maxxis Minion FBF/FBR (26 x 4.8") - Trail-orientated, very grippy

🔹 Lighter alternatives

If you want less weight and more agility:

- Surly Marge Lite rims with 3.8" tyres - e.g. Surly Nate or Kenda Juggernaut

→ Attention: Offset and rim width must match the frame

🌕 Surly Moonlander - For all those who want to go beyond t…

When we feel the deep, primal urge to explore beyond the boundaries of our familiar world, there are few things that satisfy this need. The Moonlander is definitely one of them.

A true portal into previously untravelled terrain - the Moonlander goes where other fatbikes capitulate. Where traction seems to be just a myth and the only grams to be saved are in our Dugout Bag.

Our newly developed Molenda tyres with extremely large volume were the key. Even the fattest tyres on the market - including our own - are not enough. That's why we equipped this bike with 24 x 6.2 inch tyres on 100 mm wide rims. This huge contact patch allows for extremely low air pressure and ensures that you can glide over a geographical variety of seemingly unrideable terrain: rocky dunes, crawling coastlines, frozen beaches, winding snowfields and much more.

🔧 Technical highlights

- Frame: Precisely manufactured from Surly's tried and tested 4130 chromoly steel

- Bottom bracket height: Provides generous ground clearance for bush riding and monster trucking without sacrificing stability

- Transmission: Surly's first bike with a 9-speed Pinion transmission - an innovative approach to reliable performance with minimal maintenance

- Top tube design: Maximises standover height and facilitates foot support on soft ground

- Head tube height: Enables a comfortable riding position for long tours

- Tyres & rims: Surly Molenda 24 x 6.2" on Surly Clown Royal 24 x 100 mm rims, inflated with new TPU tubes - for a contact patch that makes previously unrideable terrain conquerable

- Tyre clearance: Compatible with 24 x 6.2", 26 x 5.1", 27.5 x 4.8" and 29 x 3" tyres

- Mounting points: Integrated mounts for pannier rack, mudguards and accessories on both fork legs - compatible with Surly's "Rear Disc Wide Rack"

- Weight distribution: Extended rear triangle for optimum stability between front and rear wheel

- Brakes: Tektro HD-M285 hydraulic disc brake system

- Frame sizes: SM, MD, LG, XL - suitable for most riders

- Dropper post: Includes dropper seat post for easy mounting and dismounting, especially on soft ground
