The Salsa Waxwing Carbon is a high-quality, lightweight and precise gravel/all-road fork that is ideal as an upgrade for the Surly Midnight Special. It offers modern standards, high stiffness and smooth, controlled steering behaviour - both on asphalt and gravel.

Aluminium steerer tube

With the Salsa Waxwing Carbon, the fork itself is made of carbon fibre,

but the steerer tube - the vertical tube that goes into the frame and headset - is made of aluminium.

Why is this done?

- Stability & safety: Aluminium steerer tubes are very robust against clamping pressure from the stem and headset.

- Price & weight: The combination of carbon + aluminium is lighter than steel, but cheaper than a complete carbon stem.

- Compatibility: Many manufacturers prefer aluminium stems because they are less sensitive and fit universally.
